"We worked on understanding analogies and finding synonyms and word relationships. We also created a study guide for the student's upcoming test."
"First session with student... *Began with homework simply to warm student up to me and observe her skill level. Student needed assistance with forming a question versus a statement, understanding an observed word pattern (i.e. contractions). So we practiced generating question words and making contractions. The student can practice the contractions rap at her leisure. *We then moved on to Sight Word Recognition. The student has a large and mostly fluent vocabulary. She was able to rapidly name 300 words. Most word errors were self corrected by the student once she rechecked her mistake. *I also listened to the student orally count the words she got correct. She recounted several times trying to do it silently so I asked her to count out loud. I noted that she does not have 1:1 correspondence and counts faster orally than her finger is actually touching. She counted to 124 and stopped. *Lastly we read a book via iPad for fluency, accuracy, and expression. She had 7 total errors of which 3 were the same word (didn't, student stated did not). She read for approximately 3 minutes. *We began a comprehension activity only focusing on the first section of text and it was noted that the student had difficulty recalling details from the text. She did enjoy the graphic organizer we were using though!"
"For the first meeting with my two scholars, we covered the practice of textual analysis, practicing with one passage, and modeling best practices for answer the multiple choice questions. The scholars then analyzed a second passage and answered multiple choice questions independently, practicing the skills and techniques to quickly and effectively read and analyze a text for the main idea."
