Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I redid some of her classwork to make sure she understood what she got wrong. We redid a science test, math test, and 2 ELA assignments. We also did some money problems to preview the next math unit at school."
"We reviewed some assessments from the student's school. We practiced adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing fractions. This week he should practice solving equations with fractions and changing fractions to mixed numbers. We also reviewed converting decimals to fractions and percents and rounding numbers. We also practiced finding the volume of geometric shapes such as triangles and rectangular prisms. He should also practice multiplication facts and division with 3-digit numbers in order to help him feel more confident about complex math problems. He should also study his vocabulary words this week."
"We studied the numbers 1-30 for the entirety of the session. We used flashcards; I held them out as the student identified each number in traditional flashcard style. Then I laid them all out and said each number and had her choose from the bunch. We finished by writing all numbers 1-30 two times and filling in the blanks with numbers 1-30. She is able to recite the numbers but will sometimes not recognize them out of context, for example the number 13. She also would write "14" as "41" but writing out the numbers twice seemed to help with that."
"For this session, the student practiced math concepts that included counting, addition, subtraction, and comparing. He also read 2 of his Thanksgiving stories from school. He did a great job with both activities!"
"We covered simple machines in the science book and went over previous math homework that the student did not understand. Specifically, we covered word problems related to the ratio chapter. Afterwards, we went on to word problems for the comparing three quantities ratios. The student seemed to do better on those in the workbook. He also has a practice exam to do, the activity book for science, and the homework book for math that we will go over next session."
"The student and I worked on his math skills pertaining to angles and continued to practice his times tables. His multiplication is improving. He read to me the book about the solar system, and he seemed interested in Mars. His interest in science is exciting, and I would encourage him to keep learning through reading."
