Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Discussed how buffer systems work. We also reviewed a lot of previous material in preparation for her cumulative final tomorrow."
"The student needs to get a C or higher on her test tomorrow to get a C in the class. We spent most of our time working on that. Our review tonight covered all four chapters."
"We continued on with organic chemistry by working on halogenation of alkanes. We covered chemical characteristics of alkanes, alkenes, and alkynes."
"I discussed with him the importance of chemistry and how it plays into his everyday life, something he was very curious about. He was responsible for a visual project that showed how chemistry factors into everyday life (for his class). He chose the athletic Jordan sneakers that he owned, and we described how suede, plastic, shoelaces, and dye are created to help make shoes."
"I first gave the student a small quiz to gauge how comfortable she is with certain concepts so we can focus on things that give her trouble and she'd like to review. We'll be spending a bit of time on thermo problems, specifically enthalpy, free energy, and kinetics. We'll also be reviewing some of the harder titration problems, as well as some core chemistry problems that might need revisiting. We quickly skimmed through some of the basics and spent the majority of our time on limiting reactant problems, going through several in depth, making sure she was comfortable with how to approach and solve the problem if they asked her for multiple things. Next week, we'll go over one more limiting reactant problem and dive into titration problems."
"I had a great time meeting with the student and her parents! We did a lot of good work in eliminating answers. We focused on approaching science based problems and really reading into what a question is asking for specifically."
