Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today I helped the student with a few problems from her classwork and a few of her homework problems. We continued to work with finding the area under the curve using right and left endpoints. We also found a pattern when adding numbers to the function already given and how to find the area based on this pattern. We will continue with another session on Wednesday."
"Today the student and I worked on a review of topics including first derivative test and second derivative test. He did not struggle with the material, and had a positive attitude throughout the session. I included strategies to simplify the material and convey certain concepts."
"Today the student and I worked on some review problems from her trig section. We first looked at transformations of absolute value functions and polynomials (quadratic and cubic), and then we covered similar ideas with trig functions, including identifying amplitude, period, phase shift, and vertical shift. We finished off our work with some inverse trig problems."
"Today the student and I worked on some timed ACT math practice questions. She is getting more comfortable with the types of math problems found on the ACT. Her timing also seems to be getting better. She is having a bit of difficulty with percent, so I sent her a link to some percentage questions to work through. I also advised her to do one or two timed full-length ACT math sections this week and grade them."
"Today the student had limited homework for Pre-Cal, so we spent most of our time working on the math portion of SAT Prep. I had him work problems on his own while I watched his steps, along the way I gave him tips to speed him up and find the correct answer easier. There was only a few problems I really had to "teach" him, he knew most of the concepts but needed to become faster and more confident in his steps."
"Today the student wanted me to help her get ahead in class, so we reviewed future notes for this upcoming week. We covered inverse trig functions, a totally new topic for her, and she followed along and did very well. We discussed domain vs range restriction, reference angles, coterminal angles, definition of an inverse, evaluating inverse trig functions and regular trig functions with and without a calculator, and we reviewed the unit circle. She followed along and answered questions on her own very well. She is now ahead of her class for this lesson."
