The student demonstrated growth in his most recent writing. His ideas were organized in an effective manner. The details he included were fantastic. I continue to see improvement in his ability to check over his written work. During the session, he was introduced to drafting a conclusion for an informational writing piece. The strategies discussed in this session will be applied to his current writing piece next week. Great work!

Today, the student and I discussed a draft of his second body paragraph. We focused on creating simple, linear phrasing for sentences meant to support the paragraph's central claim. Nearing the end of the draft, we shifted to think about what argument we want to make in third paragraph, and then using this knowledge to figure out how the last few sentences of the second paragraph will transition to the third. We then finished drafting the first few sentences of the third paragraph. For homework, the student will try to write a first draft of his final body paragraph in preparation for the "home stretch" of writing the conclusion of the essay.

I combined writing and handwriting activities by having him write a narrative paragraph about one place he'd like to visit. He chose Fiji, and we worked on sentence coherency and brainstorming. He did a surprisingly great job.

We worked on a new prompt this week, since the student had not completed last week's prompt that I gave her. During the session, the student and I worked on writing a basic outline and pulling out important quotes and evidence that she can use to write a short paper over this new prompt. We also spent some time on vocabulary and sentence completions.

We wrote a story about his pencil that he won by first vocalizing the story, writing down bullet points, and then writing the actual story. We then looked at two of his favorite books and found five vocabulary words and I had him define them, then we looked up the proper definitions in the dictionary for comparison. He presented and read his story aloud to his mother and sitter at the end.
