I found some excellent problems on the internet and we spent the session working through as many as we could. In all, we got through around 10 problems. The problems are involved and take time to work through, especially for a beginner. The session was productive and he cleared up some conceptual misunderstandings. If he got stuck I tried to guide him through it by posing a series of questions rather than just telling him what to do next. This works pretty well with him. In my opinion, he is highly intelligent. Occasionally, he comes up with ways to do certain problems that I had not thought of. He has a creative mind and thinks outside of the box.

We worked through the student's notes of logarithm rules. He was very confident and did several problems effortlessly that applied those concepts. Also reviewed some admissions test math 2 problems that he had completed for homework. The focus was geometry: conic sections, three-dimensional coordinates, translations, volume and surface area. I asked him to complete the next section of the book for homework, so we can review it together next week.
