The student and I focused mainly on English today. I was surprised to hear English was his worst section, since he actually did quite well on our practice questions today.  We worked through several sections, with an emphasis on strategy and careful consideration instead of speed.  We also worked through more reading sections, where I gave him some more tips to increase reading speed, as well as making him summarize sections and questions to drill his comprehension.  We rounded out the session with some science and math.  I definitely see improvement.  We're starting to pick apart some of his sticking points on reading and I'm also teaching him to stop second guessing himself when his first instinct is correct.  We'll continue working on this going forward.

This was my first meeting with the student, and he was a pleasure to work with! He is such a dedicated and focused young boy, and he was engaged and on-task during the entire session. We worked on language arts for most of the session, focusing on lessons from the workbook. I also made up some paragraphs of my own, and he went through and corrected my "mistakes" in capitalization and punctuation. We also worked from his math lesson book, and he did very well with fractions and word problems.
