Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We started the session with some sentence completion questions that tested the list of vocabulary words that I assigned the student for homework. She did very well and, in the process of going through the questions, we identified about 30 new words that she can work on. I will assign her these words to study next week. For reading comprehension practice, I chose a set of paired passage questions. We finished the session with a review of statistics (mean, median, mode, range) and percent change. She was rusty on these topics at first but her understanding came back after a little review. Dividing our session into three parts (vocabulary, reading, and math) seemed to work well and we agreed to structure our sessions in this way going forward. I emailed her a list of vocabulary words to study for our session next Monday."
"The student and I worked through a practice math test section that included student generated responses, which he did well on. We also reviewed outline structure and timing. He started outlines and essays for two practice prompts and I provided feedback. We ended by working through short, medium and comparison passages in a practice CR section. We will meet next week, same time."
"Covered reading comp. The student had a very good day, missing less than 2 questions per section on average. He is also getting better at vocab questions in reading comp (interpreting how an author meant a word). For next time, we are tackling a new set of practice tests, and focusing on essay writing."
