"The student and I worked on mental filing cabinet data to aide her in bringing in relevant support to her essays. She worked on two essays and her scores, respectively for each essay were a 5.5 and a 6."
"The student worked on Close reading. That is, reading and retreading for detail and analysis. He completed one reading, including writing a summary paragraph about the author's point of view"
"We had a very good tutoring session. I brought a new book - The Lion and the Mouse - that had no words. This forced the student to really focus on the pictures and give me details vs. one word answers. We went through the book briefly looking at all the pictures and just pointing out interesting things then went back to the beginning and I had her tell me a story. I also did an exercise where I pretended that I couldn't see the pictures and she needed to tell me details so I could create my own pictures in my imagination. It took a lot of questions and prompts but she rose to the occasion. Then, we went back to the beginning and I had her write sentences creating a story. Her recall was good and she really worked hard for me. We almost finished with all the pictures in the book so we'll continue this project when I return. I would say she was out of her comfort zone but with encouragement she stayed with the task and didn't quit."
"We worked on both reading and math during today's session. In reading we focused on sight word recognition and phonics/decoding of CVC words. We read books at both a guided reading level as well as books with high frequency words and decodable words. In math we reviewed double digit addition and subtraction and worked on place value of tens and ones."
"We worked on both reading and math. The student read a nonfiction article on level P and answered both multiple choice and short answer responses. We worked on writing complete sentences and checking that they made sense. In math we reviewed basic multiplication facts of 6s, 7s, 8s and 9s. He also worked on basic addition and subtraction of 2 and 3 digit numbers. We made flashcards for multiplication facts that he needs to study. He also has HW in addition, subtraction and multiplication. I encouraged him not to use a calculator."
"We worked on both reading and writing today. The student worked on writing a final draft and reading for fluency. In writing, double checking her work and handwriting are areas for improvement. In reading, an area for improvement is still paying close attention to avoid omitting or adding small connecting words. We focused on skills and strategies for these areas. Her attitude was great as usual. I left both reading and writing practice."
