We worked on intonation and pronunciation skills. We watched a video on thought groups so the student could understand how to break up sentences properly. Then, we practiced a little with some reading material. That allowed us to identify pronunciation difficulties to work on further. He was very receptive to the materials presented to him. I showed him how he could use screen capturing software to mark up a passage of text to help with pronunciation of certain words. I gave him an assignment to copy a passage of text and try breaking it up into thought groups and marking the passage up for pronunciation purposes. This was the first time we discussed thought groups, so it was hard to say if any progress had been made on that. But, overall, I see progress in his speaking skills.

We worked on letter sounds correspondence. I brought a game to practice matching beginning sounds of the words. The student identified beginning sounds of the words fluently. The student also read three books: two books from her choice and one book from my choice. She read very well with the books she was familiar with, but required assistance in blending sounds to read the unfamiliar book. We will continue to work on letter sounds correspondence and blending sounds together.
