Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I worked through her homework assignment. The topics covered include: introduction to the standard normal curve and its application in statistics."
"We covered conditional probability rules today. She understands the material, but does need to practice and read her text to improve further."
"The student has the SAT this Saturday, so we made a detour on today's session and focused on SAT math and SAT reading (she is doing well on the SAT writing). First, we went over practice problems on the website, where we both independently solved the problems so I could understand her thought process. Then, we solved them together and went over a couple concepts (i.e. probability, equation notations). Next, we read through a reading comprehension passage together and answered the corresponding questions. I showed her how to look at the passage a different way. To wrap up, I created a sample study schedule for the next 4 days, provided some practice material and have made myself available via email to answer questions. Finally, we went over the AP stat homework (focused on population, sampling, and causes of bias) in which the student shows a thorough understanding."
"During our most recent session, the student and I primarily focused on completing her Math work. She had a worksheet on subtracting two digit numbers, including subtracting using re-grouping and borrowing. I would like to see her add to her set of math strategies for subtraction techniques, so that she is not relying on the method of counting down from the greater number to reach the smaller number. I am adding that to the set of goals that she and I can visit in the next couple of weeks. We concluded our session by exploring how to complete "fact families" using multiplication and division. We talked about how fact family problems look at the relationship between groups of items (or quantities) and unpacked how multiplication and division are related to one another."
"The student had questions on some problems concerning integrals of one-forms over curves, applications of the fundamental theorem of calculus and applications of Green's theorem. I answered all his questions."
"The student and I worked on geometry, particularly understanding how to draw a line of reflection when given two shapes on a coordinate plane. We used the midpoint formula to understand this. She understood how to draw the shapes given the line of reflection, but initially had trouble drawing the line of reflection."
