Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student is in her last week of her course. Tonight we worked on t-tests and z-tests for proportions. Both are hypothesis tests, so for both we also practiced setting up null and alternative hypotheses, calculating test statistics, findings critical values and p-values, and making decisions about rejecting the null. Next, she is on to her final exam, but based on our work together she has 100% points on homework and she feels totally prepared to finish. It's been great working with her!!"
"This session focused mainly on the sampling distributions and finding confidence intervals from sampling distributions. Since most of the questions were multiple choice, she was able to get the concepts, but we were struggling on the wordings of the questions to decide on the correct answer."
"This session focused on developing a linear regression model using the least squares method and then using that model to make predictions about the population from which we sampled. The lesson started with scatter plots and correlation. The student picked up very quickly on this lesson as well, and we went over all of her homework problems. She also took her timed quiz while I was there and got through the 19 multiple choice and 1 short answer question, with me asking her to reconsider only 2 of her answers."
"This session was spent covering how to set up paired dependent tests in the calculator as well as chi-squared tests. The student completed a practice quiz; we reviewed missed answers from her homework, and she took a course quiz after the review in which she scored a 100%. Next session will be a general review of notes and processes in final preparation for her exam."
"This session, we reviewed some previous topics including types of data and sampling. We then continued on with probability and some of the key concepts involved. She was able to grasp each concept very well. I think we came up with some good strategies for her to use as she begins the class next month. To better organize types of data, we formed a tree plot separating each type into numbers and no numbers groups, which I think will help her before her first test. Considering the class has started yet, I believe she is prepared to do very well in the class. Overall, we had a great session."
"This was a great session! We covered linear regression lines and everything that goes along with that: independent vs dependent variable, correlation coefficients, and equations for multiple regression. We discussed the meaning of each of these variables both abstractly and in the context of the problem."
