Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"I worked with the student on sketching the graphs of quadratic functions while in vertex form and standard form. Also, we worked on determining the equation given the curve with 2 and, sometimes, 3 points. We went over the completion of the square method to rewrite a standard form equation into vertex form. He was very receptive, and not only answered questions but also asked ones to ensure that he understood."
"In the session, we went over adding, subtracting, and multiplying complex matrices. The student was doing very well, and I am very impressed with her performance. Her attitude towards learning was very impressive, and I can't wait to kick things back off on Wednesday to see how she improved and what else I can help with. Thank you, and see you then!"
"In this lesson we specifically covered quadratic equations for the student's upcoming exam. We worked with quadratic equations in the standard from and the vertex from. We solved problems looking for range, domain, y intercept, x intercept, increasing and decreasing ranges, and minimum and maximums. We solved these problems algebraically and by graphing. We also discussed what solutions to systems of equations means and looked at inequalities. The student seemed to have a good understanding of the material with his only possible weakness being in factoring. This is not a required skill for the upcoming exam but is an important foundation skill. We discussed how to solve problems in general, which will be good for all test situations. His only possible problem will be with trusting the diagrams instead of the words in problems."
"In this session, the student worked on applications using vectors. He was given a statement and was told to sketch the vectors given certain angles and degrees. He was then told to calculate the magnitude and direction of the vectors."
"In today's session we reviewed for the student's test tomorrow, covering sections 1.5 and 1.6 and including inverse functions and function properties. She did a good job of understanding the material and should do well on her test."
"In today's session, I assisted the student with her current homework assignment on Slopes and Lines. For her, this was largely a review of topics she had learned in Algebra 1 & 2. Some examples of the problems include finding the equation of a line passing through two given points, determining if two lines are parallel or perpendicular, and finding the slope and y-intercept of a line. Also, we reviewed her assessment from last Friday. She did very well on it and demonstrated her mastery over the topics covered that previous week."
