We covered vertex/intercept/standard form of parabolas, including how to find the vertex and intercepts in each form and how to change from one form to the other. The student did not seem to pick up the material in class, but once we covered it she seemed much more confident.

Tutoring review by Chloe in Benbrook, TX
The student started by reading her sight words to me. She got almost all the words right. She read her book to me and flew through that. She moved to reading level 16 for her class reading book. This book was a little bit harder for her. She stumbled through some of the words. We choral read together and then she read by herself. She did much better the second time. She answered a comprehension question about the book. We ended with her reading her sight words to me.

I met the student and her mother to discuss where she is in her Biology class. We discussed learning styles, the difficulties she is facing, and what roadblocks are present. I then worked with her to create a cooperative blueprint for our work together that would include the participation of her teacher and mother.

Tutoring review by Allison in Benbrook, TX
Today, we worked on finding the altitude of a right triangle and we went over the Pythagorean Theorem. In doing both of these kinds of problems, we had to simplify square roots. The student seems like a very solid student, and if he is able to talk through the problem, he understands it pretty well. If he does make an error, he often catches himself as he goes along. He began the session a little less confident on simplifying square roots. However, by the end of the session, he had a great handle on these, as we practiced many. I was very impressed with how quickly he sees relationships between numbers. This is a huge asset in solving these types of problems. It not only allows him to solve them more quickly, but it allows him to check his work. I am very impressed with him; he is solid student!
