Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We covered NMR on benzene derivatives, the effects of different groups and ortho para and meta positions, homotopic diastereotopic and enantiotopic Hs, reductions of carbonyl compounds, NaBH4 vs LiAlH4, carbonyl reactivity, acyl substitutions, overview of Grignard reactions additions to carbonyl compounds, Sn2 rxns, acyl substitution rxns, and acid base Grignard rxns."
"We covered nomenclature, Lewis dot structure, and quantum mechanics. He had a good grasp over his material, not struggling with too much, except perhaps with nomenclature. The student has a great attitude and I am going to have him bring problems for me to see."
"We covered nomenclature, skeletal structures vs Lewis structures, isomers (and how to methodically draw all of them), electron configuration, VSEPR, and hybrid orbitals. Nomenclature involved finding the longest chain (no matter how twisted it was drawn) and which end to start at, as well as which to list first, all parts of the naming process."
"We covered orbitals, quantum number, formal charges, and resonance. The student just started the the course, and wanted to clarify some foundational concepts. We utilized the whiteboard to work out practice problems. The student was receptive to the material. He will work practice problems in his book, and we will meet again next week."
"We covered oxidation/reduction reactions. The student was struggling a bit with application and remembering concepts. He needs to practice. He wants to know more. I recommended using flashcards to understand mechanisms and names. I will be sending him extra practice and giving a lesson on Sunday. I believe that if he dedicates his time, he will be able to do much better on this next test."
"We covered reactions of alkynes, properties of resonance structures, and aromaticity. We also went over a practice exam in preparation for her exam tomorrow (Thursday). She was not left with extra practice this time."
