Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I began by working through an entire logical reasoning section. He scored 17/25 on the section while finishing just within the time limit. We went over some pacing strategies and analyzed the questions he missed in detail. I emphasized some strategies that may help and explained how to identify the correct answer when needed. We then worked through another section following the same method and he scored 18/25. We ended the session by working through a logic game. He has a better understanding of how to complete the games now, and he just needs to work on the speed and accuracy of his deductions."
"Today, we reviewed reading comprehension as well as logic games. The student's accuracy is still about where it needs to be to get his target score, so I've focused on strategies that should help him answer questions more quickly. Specifically, I encouraged him to go with his gut on answering reading comprehension questions, as I think that the extra time that he spends checking the questions may not be all that beneficial."
"Tonight, we worked on some basic test strategies and then covered the basics of grouping games. The student has solid reading skills and understood the if then statements for grouping games very quickly. This week, she is going to complete two argument sections along with a couple more grouping games. She is going to focus on completing the argument sections in 35 minutes without worrying about her score so that she gets used to the pace that she should be moving on the test. We will see how she does and then think about starting to take full practice tests in the coming weeks. She has the skills to do well on the test, and I am confident we can get her there over time."
"We covered logical reasoning questions and logic games. We discussed strategies to help the student move more quickly through the games. We also discussed some of the wording in reading passage questions and strategies for choosing which reading passages to choose on the exam."
"We covered two sets of Logical Reasoning questions and two sets of Logic Games. The student did better at each of the sections than in prior study sessions. We practiced strategies and time-saving techniques for both of the sections. In the meantime, we will continue review of these sections, as well as include a Reading Comprehension section, in the next sessions. Overall, the student has improved considerably from our first session, especially in actively reading the question stimuli on the Logical Reasoning section."
"We covered undefined grouping plus a hybrid mapping logic game, and the formal logic Venn diagram technique. The homework is to review preptest 53, do some more logic game worksheet practice, drill RC with the first 10 prep tests (summarize each paragraph and use YOUR summary to answer the questions), and take prep tests 51 and 50."
