Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today we covered topics in both geometry and biology. In geometry, we did a review of the concepts we covered last session. We completed practice questions applying Law of Sine and Cosine. The student was much more confident with the topics. In biology, we worked on reviewing GMO's and the process of genetically modifying organisms. We covered the objectives in his worksheet and we made sure that he understood the concepts involved in gel electrophoresis, PCR, restriction enzymes, etc."
"First, the student and I worked on her biology. I was able to differentiate and explain to her how transcription and translation worked. By the end of my explanation she felt great because she understood the concept. Then we worked on parallelograms. She had trouble with the rules that explained what makes a parallelogram a parallelogram. She also had trouble with how to solve the problems due to how the wording was structured. She said that I was a great help in breaking down how to solve the problems. I did not leave her with other study materials because she still has a sheet to complete. During the week she will be sending me some of her classwork in order for me to help her prepare for her exams."
"Today the student and I reviewed for his test over circles. He struggled the most with problems involving arcs and angles, forgetting which theorems to use when. We practiced the concept with all of his review problems and a couple from my materials. We also reviewed concepts such as arc length, area of a sector and area of a segment. He struggled with area of a segment, determined that he needed to subtract the area of the sector from the area of the triangle. I showed him visually that it was the other way around. In the end, he memorized it the other way around. Overall, it was a good review. The student got an 89% and a 90% on his quizzes, so we are hoping that he will achieve something similar on his test Wednesday."
"I reviewed with the student how to find areas and perimeters of rhombi, trapezoids, parallelograms, and rectangles. I also covered areas of sectors and circles. All these were done in preparation for an up coming class quiz and a test."
"We worked on the student's review packet for his upcoming test on Wednesday. The topics included using trig to solve for the parts of right triangles. We also specifically went over problems involving special right triangles."
"This was my first session with the student. She seems like a great student, and is currently having difficulty understanding some geometry concepts. We reviewed some homework problems focusing around the areas of similar geometry shapes. The object was to compare the ratio between sides of an object to the ratio of the area of those objects. I tried to reinforce the idea of squaring to solve for area, and finding the square root to get ratio of sides."
