Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I began by working through a complete logical reasoning section. She struggled a bit with accuracy in the section. We went over the individual strategy for each of the question types she missed and discussed some ways to increase her accuracy. We then worked through a complete logic game section. She did very well on the first two games. On the last two games I helped her by illustrating the game and explaining some key deductions. We went over individual questions from the games section as needed."
"The student and I worked on several resolve the discrepancy questions that he performed well on. We then moved on to a parallel logic game in which he did well but could have saved time by getting a few more deductions out of the way before moving on to the questions. Then, we moved on to a comparative reading comprehension passage. I reminded him to go with the answer he knows is right even if there is another answer he thinks might be more correct. I would encourage him to dedicate most of his time to reading comprehension practice."
"Today is the week of the test. We went through the student's recent practice sections and then worked on her personal statement (which should be good to go now!). I have one tip moving forward: on logic games, she should reinforce what each question is asking by writing the key words (e.g., "except," "cannot," etc.) in the margins. Otherwise, it looks like she is on track for a great score!"
"Today the student and I worked on logical reasoning and logic games. We did both a grouping and a linear game, both of which moved fairly quickly once we worked out the extra rules and initial diagrams. She wants to focus on assumption questions in logical reasoning, as we have pinpointed it as something she struggles with. Next time, I will have many assumption only questions prepared."
"Today was my last session with the student. She's taking the test in a little over a week. In general, her Logic Games skills have improved substantially over our sessions, and I'm confident she'll do well come test day. In this session, we inventoried the major game types and touched on a couple we hadn't done before, including a double-ordering game. We also spent a little bit of time on Logical Reasoning."
"The major concepts we dealt with yesterday were the pronoun drills, which the student did fine on. We will review them soon, however. In addition, we rolled through some medium-strength word problems in the quant area."
