Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We started today's session by working on the student's math homework. She is working on median and mean. I reviewed this homework assignment with her as well as another assignment dealing with bar graphs. After she finished her homework we worked on some more multiplication strategies focusing only on the seven, eight, and nine timetable. She is showing improvement."
"We covered simplifying expressions with multiple variables, rules for operations with exponents, the distributive property, and simplifying polynomials. She was able to work through practice problems from her textbook in preparation for her final exam and felt confident with the material."
"We continued the final exam review, covering model types for patterns of data, direct variation, indirect variation, etc. We covered finding the least common denominator for polynomial fractions and complex fractions, solving equations using factoring and cross multiplication. I gave him a review sheet of equations and essential information about describing functions and definitions of paraboli, circles, hyperboli and ellipses."
"Today we were able to complete two assignments, both on quadratics, specifically on the material that we had covered on Tuesday. She was doing really well with this material, and I am confident that she can hold her own on the quiz tomorrow."
"We covered problems on optimization, finding critical points, mean value theorem and its relation to average value of a function, and finding displacement and distance of a moving particle using an integral of a velocity equation. All of these problems were practice problems for a test that the student is going to take this Friday."
"Today we assessed the student's current standing and skill in order to move forward. We did practice problems from the book and reviewed topics."
"The student and I worked primarily through polynomial manipulation. We'll continue to work through problems as the week goes on. We also talked about sums and calculating area under a curve without a calculus influence."
"Today we started to review for the student's final. We went back to the start of the last 4 chapters and looked over 3 to 4 sections, working on problems as we went along. We will continue to do this over the next 4 sessions."
"To review for the student's final exam on June 10th, we reviewed certain topics that she felt she needed more help with. We covered the following topics: percents, decimals, fractions, sales tax, tips, discounts, proportions, similar figures and indirect measurement. We worked together on setting up proportions and solving them. The next two sessions we will continue covering these topics and a few others."
"The student and I reviewed for her end-of-the-year algebra final. It included many topics such as systems of equations, simplifying/computing polynomials, statistics, exponential/decay equations, and elements of algebra II. This is her last final and the last day of her school for the year."
"We went through the student's review sheet and did practice problems, focusing on combining like terms, solving equations with x on both sides of the equals sign, and distribution."
"This 1.5 hour session covered the basics of probability and statistics in terms of understanding how to compile and analyze data. The student and I worked together on his homework for chapter 12 in his textbook. The student did not have many questions about how to solve probability problems as a whole."
