Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We practiced giving direction by role playing. Then with a real map of downtown, I gave the student instructions and he had to guess where I took him on the map. We went through different ways of saying turn, excuse me, continue, go straight, corner, etc. We then listened to a song in Spanish and analyzed the lyrics."
"In today's session I explained to the student different irregular Spanish verbs. I showed her how to conjugate the verbs. She shows a very good attitude towards trying to learn these verbs. She says that her problem with this part of the Spanish language is memorization of the rules to conjugate verbs, and the changes presented with irregular verbs. We also practiced pronunciation. Some normal errors were corrected and explained. She's really willing to follow up the lesson and learn! Her assignment was to write the entire conjugation of these verbs, without looking at the notes for the right answer."
"We got to know each other, discussed the student's goals and desires, learned about her background with Spanish, created a schedule/ plan we would stick to at each session, and began with basic vocabulary and number words."
"The student worked on her next homework assignment, which covered new vocabulary and old grammatical concepts. The grammatical concepts we covered included conocer vs. saber, conjugation of verbs in the preterite, and the use of indirect objects. I have encouraged her to spend time reviewing outside of our sessions."
"The student and I worked on a variety of math problems. We worked on content ranging from 4th grade to 8th grade and she really excelled even on the challenging questions. I am hoping to continue pushing her to try new content during our sessions and encouraging her to review 4th grade content during the week between our sessions."
"Today was the second lesson for this student. We started making a quick review of what we were studying last Saturday and I helped him to refresh his mind. I brought new topics to improve his vocabulary. We studied the areas of a house from indoors and outdoors. My strategies are always making drawings and using my recommend books. Actually, we learned a lot of words and did five pages of vocabulary. At the end, he said he's going to study today's lesson and email me if he has some questions. He seemed more enthusiastic about Spanish this time!"
