Session Summaries by German Tutors

Bellwood, IL German tutoring
This session was particularly productive. She practiced giving directions in preparation for an upcoming in-class activity. As usual she was very focused and seemed to grasp the material well. I have encouraged her to practice writing directions without looking at her notes in preparation for the assignment, particularly focusing on new vocabulary words in the process.

Reviewed how to identify reflexive pronouns from indirect object pronouns. Completed a worksheet reviewing vocabulary and new verb tenses. Completed the lesson by listening to a song in Spanish and the student trying to summarize what the song was saying as much as she could. She enjoyed the exercise, said it was fun to have to learn by listening to music.

We reviewed the differences between the two past tenses, preterite & imperfect. She had 2 formative assessments to complete at home. We worked through the first one together and the second she worked through more independently but still explaining why she chose a particular tense. We also reviewed differentiating AR and ER/IR endings for both regular & irregular verbs. I had her practice those separately after finishing assessments. She feels very confident with imperfect tense. We had to review reflexive verbs a little, too. I suggest she keep practicing with the preterite because there are many irregulars and conjugation exceptions.
