We covered Poisson distributions. The student was doing fine. He had some issues initially with knowing which numbers to divide and which to multiply. I drew out the meaning of the problems graphically to help show what the question was asking and what the solution represents.

The student and I reviewed test material for exam 3 including hypothesis tests, p-values, rejection regions, small samples, large samples, comparing population means, regression analysis, least squares regression model, confidence intervals on the slopes, using the model, and correlation coefficient (r). Her exam is scheduled for 12/4. We're targeting a 75% or higher.

I am very impressed with the student's progress over the past few weeks! She has done increasingly well on her exams, especially on one population and two population hypothesis tests (the most difficult material). Yesterday we reviewed her homework problems for linear regressions and discussed some of the basic rules for r values and correlation. She seemed to understand the material, and I don't think she will have any problems with it as long as she treats the regression like a simple y=mx+b line and follows the steps for each formula. These questions require a lot of work, but they are very straightforward - don't over think it!

For this session, the student and I covered correlation and regression analyses. He was having some issue with his homework performing some of the analyses in R. We worked through code, and he was very enthusiastic about learning and using R. Because these analyses rely on information from previous lectures, we reviewed the ANOVA concepts, which helped him become more comfortable with the material. He will review all concepts in preparation for our review for his final next time.

This morning, we had an hour and 15 minute session where I showed the student a few videos on how to perform time series analyses in Excel and answered a few questions about his online homework. In the afternoon, we spent an hour and 45 minutes going over the more conceptual components of time series analysis and the mathematical components. He said he is a visual learner, so I am trying to incorporate videos and PowerPoints into my lessons as much as possible. I plan on sending him the resources so he can review them when he studies.

Today the student and I went over using the normal distribution. We practiced problems where we had to find the z-score using percentages and also how to find the real values that corresponded to those z-scores. She picked up the method very quickly and she solved a variety of problems using the normal distribution.
