We reviewed Ch. 3 of the logical reasoning book and began review of Ch. 4. We discussed the general approach to logic games and reviewed a logic game together in preparation of the student's taking a practice LSAT. Homework includes completing the practice LSAT, finishing Chs. 4-5, and reviewing Chs. 2-3. She is doing very well; her comprehension is excellent.

Since our last session together, the student started ramping up his studying, taking several full LSAT tests each week and working towards a consistent practice schedule. He was still finding reading comprehension to be challenging, so we worked through the approach I've found success with in the past: reading each paragraph for its "gist" or main purpose, then making a small memory note on the side so you can reference it later. Asking "why is this paragraph here" is a great way to gain a quick understanding of the somewhat complicated language in reading comp passages. We also tackled a few logical reasoning questions and a logic game that comes along once in a blue moon - a mapping game. To conclude, we went over his resume briefly and discussed the beginning steps of law school applications, including getting academic recs, building extracurriculars, and writing essays.

We got started on Logic Games - introducing linear and grouping games and major clue types. The student got the ideas quickly and should improve quickly with practice. We will meet again in two weeks. Before that time, he will work through chapters 1-3 and 5 in the prep book and take at least one test from the LSAT book under timed conditions (10 minute break between third and fourth sections of the test, no need to do the writing sample).

We also talked about the pitfalls to avoid, including traps of similarities and distinctions, the trap of separation, the trap of proximity, the trap of inserted alternate viewpoint, traps of chronology, and passage topic traps. We then discussed passage elements and a formations recognition drill.
