How can a tutor assist you in conquering Elementary Math?

Elementary math is a critical building block to your child's future academic success. Future courses in geometry become impossible without a thorough understanding of the different shapes, while algebra requires a solid foundation in basic operations such as multiplication and division. If your child is starting to struggle with math now, waiting will only make subsequent courses harder. Instead, you should get your child a private tutor. An expert elementary math tutor in Bellevue could help your child gain the knowledge they need to do well in the course and all future elementary math-related courses. Need help finding such a tutor? Call Varsity Tutors to get connected with an elementary math tutor in Bellevue, NE.

We will find you a passionate elementary math tutor in Bellevue who makes your child want to learn more. Math is best taught with real world applications, and your child's tutor will assist you in making everyday occurrences into teachable moments. A birthday cake can be used to illustrate percentages, while subtraction can be used to figure out how much more money your child needs to purchase something they want. Scenarios like these are far more engaging than questions in a workbook, and your child might be more interested in the answer if it means something to them.

Today, the student began by completing her homework. She is working on skip counting in math. For homework, she had to answer word problems that required her to find the difference between two numbers (the differences were quite large). I reviewed with her some ways to skip count by 100s and 10s by looking only at the digit in that particular place value and increase it by 1, to make counting easier for her. She's learned some great strategies at school in order to create a 3 digit number. She did fairly well on her homework. She did well when skip counting by 100s and 10s. We then went on to review her multiplication facts, to help ensure she is memorizing them. She was very cooperative today and did a great job!

This was our first session so we started by getting familiarized with each other. The student's mom emailed me a copy of previous worksheets so I could focus on her weaknesses in the first session. I saw that she was struggling with deciphering odd vs. even numbers so that was the first topic we addressed. She gained an understanding of the difference and was able to articulate it to me. We also played games that addressed simple and complex addition and subtraction problems which seemed to help her a lot. Lastly we worked on a few word problems which seem to be a major weakness, so we will continue doing those next session. At the end of the session we reviewed the information with her mom. Next session we will also aim to build her confidence when answering math problems.
