Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"For this session, I selected about 20 problems for the student to complete. He completed the vast majority of them without any hiccups. The only ones he had any trouble with were the ones involving the limit definition of the derivative. Once he fixed the problem, the rest of the problems became substantially easier for him. I feel that he is ready for tomorrow's test and that he has gained an understanding of the fundamentals of calculus."
"We worked through some differentiation problems, applying the chain rule, the product rule, and the quotient rule. The student seemed to be handling the material well, but she was uncertain about how to approach certain problems. I demonstrated how she could break the functions down into manageable pieces by applying the aforementioned rules."
"The student has a test this week, so we had an extra session to go over his homework set for this Tuesday. It covered some very challenging word problems on related rates and linear approximations of functions."
"The student and I focused our energies today on understanding the chain rule and identifying which differentiation strategies to take. I encouraged her to spend time tonight getting really confident in applying our chain rule procedures."
"The student feels the quiz went well, but he hasn't gotten his grade for it yet. Today we worked on his homework for Chapter 4, which covered more advanced techniques for taking derivatives, including derivatives of trigonometric functions, derivatives of exponential functions, and derivatives of logarithmic functions. We proved the derivative of secant, solved problems with long uses of the chain rule, and did complicated derivatives that involved applying all the rules learned so far."
"We went over the student's first test and began working on concepts regarding limits. The session went well. We scheduled another for the following Tuesday."
