Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We talked about strategies for figuring out how to structure a proof, and how to identify special pairs of angles involving parallel lines. She made good progress on her ability to structure and write a proof."
"The student didn't have any French homework and says French is going great, so we worked on geometry during the entire session. She has been struggling a bit still with some of the main concepts of geometry, so today we worked on the two-column proof, and emphasized how much of geometry is about teaching you to justify each of your steps and conclusions, even if some of them seem obvious to you. She seems to have a strong grasp of the basic terms, and seemed to make real progress during this session."
"The student and I worked on his homework and began working on a project that is due in a few weeks. His homework involved using the slope formula to determine the slope of various lines and their associated parallel and tangent pairs."
"Today's section focused on factoring equations, up to those with a prime "a" coefficient. The student showed improvement and was successfully completing problems without my input by the end of the session."
"We discussed introductory logic concepts such as modus ponens, modus tollens, and the relationships of contrapositive to the conditional, as well as the inverse to the converse. The student seems to understand the main concepts."
"We covered the meaning of similarity and went through problems determining whether rectangles and triangles have similarities and how to use that fact to find unknowns in the problem. I explained the three rules that can be applied to verify whether two shapes are similar, then I guided the student through practice problems writing proofs. The student is picking up the new material quickly and has a good grasp of the fundamental concepts in geometry."
