"The student had an upcoming test on the first and second derivative tests. He found world problems most challenging, but being able to construct derivatives from word problems is a very effective means of determining one's understanding of derivative tests. He's going to practice word problems for calculus when he can. When he starts learning about related rates, most questions are posed in the form of word problems. I look forward to working with him in the future."
"The student and I went over finding the derivatives of polynomial functions. With help from me, he worked through various problems dealing with finding derivatives, and a couple that dealt with writing equations of lines tangent/normal to a function at a given point. He did very well, and seemed to comprehend the ideas of the section quite quickly."
"Reviewed some of the material covered from last time and gave her a brief explanation of what a derivative means in terms of its geometric interpretation, then went straight into using the shortcut method for solving derivatives. We covered the power rule, product rule, quotient rule, chain rule and spend about 15 minutes talking about and doing some nested chain rule problems. Then we covered implicit differentiation and its application in related rate problems. Finally we ended covering trigonometric functions, exponential functions and their derivatives."
"Sect. 2.1: The Derivative and the Tangent Line Problem; Sect. 2.2: Basic Differentiation Rules and Rates of Change; Sect. 2.3: Product and Quotient Rules and Higher-Order Derivative; Sect. 2.4: The Chain Rule"
"We reviewed the problems I created for him. He did well on them. We worked some extra problems that he felt a little weak with. He made a lot of progress this week, and I think he is ready for his placement exam."
"Continued with Algebra 1a test material. I believe if she focuses she is pretty much ready for her exam. She knows the material."
"Review of hw--finding percentages .Practiced determining fraction of shaded area and shading based on provided fractions. Practiced finding percents. Reviewed addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division (much improved). Practiced multiplying by 12 worksheet. Practiced changing percents to decimals and vice versa. Learned how to convert inches to feet and vice versa."
"We covered: fractions, quantity per unit, minute math (to work on speed and accuracy), speed, and converting units. His fundamentals are fantastic."
"The student and I covered word problems involving savings (which discount is better?). Since she hopes to one day work in the stock market industry, we discussed Market Capitalization and determining stock prices, market share, and company shares. She was quick to pick up on this concept and took great interest!"
"The student did a great job on the homework pages she'd had time to do over the past couple of weeks. We did more review on percentages, fractions, and decimals. For the second half of our session, we began going over the metric system and conversions. We also went over conversions between metric and customary measurements, for which I assigned her some practice problems to do before our session on Friday."
"We reviewed Place Value and the numbers from 1-9. We counted forward to 200 and counted on and back from given numbers. The student worked on fact families. She did well with counting in sequence and determining numbers that come before and after."
"Today was an excellent day! We continued working on the packet and he was very focused today. He is really catching on and remembering various things so far!"
