Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We first watched a one minute Chinese TV news on YouTube to practice listening and talked about the topic and related words in the news. Then, we read a story. He struggled a little bit with the pronunciation. After reading with me, he got much better."
"Yesterday we reviewed the negative operations sheets that the student had for homework. He did quite well with the addition/subtraction sheet. I only briefly talked about mult/div rules last week, so I went more in depth yesterday, and I was really impressed by how quickly he picked up the strategy. I then had him review finding the area of a triangle and finding the area of "weird shapes" through logic. I then had him complete half of a practice math section."
"The lesson went very well. We started on the study guide, as that is where the student was struggling most. We would look at quotes to discuss the significance of them in terms of the book she read and who quoted them. Next session, we can hopefully finish this up and get her started on the project she has due on this same book."
"The student and I worked through more of the sorting grades program. We did the main() function, a getString() function, and a Scores::display() function. We discussed setting the compiler to be C++ 11 standard. We still need to do the Scores::sort() function and fix compile errors and then run and debug. We'll work on this in our next session."
"The students and I completed the review of the remaining questions within their last homework assignment, and they did a great job. The questions included a continuation of game theory, as well as the analysis of an article related to cartels, and the price (being greater than MC) within a monopolistically competitive industry. We also solved the Herfindahl Index problems!"
"Today was our last session before the upcoming ACT. I had the student steer the direction of the session, so that he could ask any questions that he needed to. Overall, I think he has improved a good amount. It was a pleasure working with him."
