Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student worked on a worksheet which involved graphing quadratic equations. He was able to complete the worksheet. Once again he has shown that he's capable of learning the content. He will need a little more practice to thoroughly understand the material."
" In this session, we worked on dividing fractions into decimals, changing mixed numbers to improper fractions, changing improper fractions to mixed numbers, adding, subtracting, multiplying fractions, and finally reducing fractions. In our previous session, we went through various procedures on how to solve various fraction problems. Today, the student did a good job remembering the procedures and solving the problems. He just needs additional practice with the procedures so he can continually do them with higher accuracy and speed. In his next session, we will review fractions. I have also advised him to let me know if anything else should be taught during the session."
"The student had some school work, so we began with that. First, she had to correct some wrong or incomplete answers on a test. She went through the problems methodically and usually was able to spot and correct her error. Where she ran into problems with multiplication and division problems, we used factoring to look at all of the possibilities. She also had a handout she was to complete and use as a study sheet. This assignment included the use of different types of charts/graphs. Lastly, she completed four math problems. Each was challenging for the student, but she stuck with it. In the process, she learned a new way of adding double digit numbers."
"The student and I continued to review the concepts from her old exams. We covered completing the square and solving by quadratic equation. She stated that worked on some of the online exercises I had assigned her over break. I asked her to focus on quadratics for our next meeting."
"She has a quiz Monday so we reviewed problems on triangle proportions and completed the homework together in preparation for the quiz."
"Today we worked on both math and science. The student is currently working on solving simple algebraic equations with one variable. She feels pretty comfortable with solving the problems and required help on a few more complex questions such as ones with fractions mixed in. We also worked on forming algebraic equations from reading word problems. She had a bit of trouble transforming a worded problem to variables and math equations, but she was able to figure it out after we took it step-by-step. As for science, we reviewed the experimental design diagram and the corresponding terms (title, hypothesis, IV, levels of IV, trials, DV, constants). We also went over some of the examples from the handouts and identified the terms for each scenario. She also told me that she has this "science project" where she's asked to come up with an idea and also apply the EDD to her idea/project. She shared her idea with me and we verbally went over the terms in the EDD for her idea. Together, we were able to solidify her idea more, and at the end she had a pretty good plan for what to do for the project."
