"Byzantine history, practice with non-document-based free response questions, review of Han and Qin empires, Roman Empire, Sumer and Babylon."
"The student and I created outlines, including thesis statements, for potential essay questions on her upcoming test."
"The student is clearly engaged with a strong work ethic. She just needs to find the study method that works best for her. I suggested flashcards and a timeline method. Even more importantly, I suggested that she write out at least one practice essay fully and outline her answers for the rest of the practice essays. For the rest of the week leading up to the test, I recommended: 1) Letting me know if the flashcards are working. I recommended reviewing her flash cards before going to bed each night, and possibly first thing in the morning if she had time. 2) Write out at least one practice essay fully and outline the rest. The more essays she can write out fully, the better. 3) I encouraged her to talk about what she's learned in class. Telling other people what she's learned will really help solidify it in her mind. I checked in with the students during the week to make sure that the methods were working. I've also let them know that I am available as needed by phone, email, and in person!"
