Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Introduction. Assessment of student's prior knowledge. Explanation of the use of different strategies: speaking, reading, writing and cultural. Read for 30 mns and translation. Practice exercise: likes and dislikes. Homework: review today's lesson and finish exercise on gustar, read verbs ser y estar for next week"
"We worked through some of the student's homework which focused on differentiating between the preterite and imperfect tenses. This is one of the trickier things to get the hang of, and he will need more practice, but this was a good introductory exercise to get him thinking about how the tenses function differently."
"We covered sea animal vocab and reviewed adjectives, present and preterite tense verbs. The student struggled with remembering some words. We played lots of games with pictures. He was scoring 100s eventually. I have no concerns."
"We continued preparing the student for her Spanish final exam tomorrow. I will be sending her some practice exercises in preparation for the last part of her other exam she is having next week. She is very confident about her exam tomorrow, and this is what tutoring is all about."
"We continued to practice conversational speaking skills in Spanish, including new vocabulary, different phrases, and tenses. The student has improved her Spanish speaking skills significantly and feels more confident using the language."
"We covered about 4 different concepts today: "to know" verbs (saber, conocer), personal "a," direct object pronouns, and reflexive verbs. The student struggled with direct object pronouns, and we reviewed this on a returned exam, reviewing the rules for these pronouns and practicing on different sentence examples. We also worked on previous homework problems, one dealing with direct object pronouns and another where the student read an article and answered comprehension questions. We briefly touched on present tense verb conjugations and practiced those as well. The student uses a vocab app to study vocabulary for each unit, and I suggested he note vocab he struggles with and rewrite them on paper to reinforce spelling and meaning and use them in a sentence to help retain the meaning of the vocab word."
