Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I finished preparing for her exam today. We finished going over the free response section, and did a brief general overview of what we had worked on."
"Today's session we made significant progress. We created a memorization review sheet that the student should look over before taking the test. We wrote down things like, strong acids, bases, formulas (Keq, q=mct, etc.), chemical compositions of atmosphere, different scientific findings, etc. We progressed towards the end of the practice Chemistry test that we are doing together. My emphasis in our next session will be a little on acid/bases and a majority on red-ox concepts. I assigned him to work on one practice test on his own to understand where he stands with the Chemistry test."
"I gave the student some final suggestions and strategies to keep in mind for the assessment Chemistry, with emphasis on understanding the format of the exam."
"This session, we worked on problems dealing with gravitational force and circular motion. The student and I went over some quiz questions she had gotten wrong, before she worked on homework problems. She knows the equations and how to manipulate them, and understands the concepts involved, and how to apply them to determine the correct equation to use. We spent most of our time discussing the concepts involved, and why we were taking the steps that we were."
"This was another excellent session. The student reports being ahead in her class and even having been asked to tutor some of her classmates, to help them get up to speed. We reviewed nomenclature, covered molar mass, and began looking at percent composition problems. Her speed at working with the core concepts is gradually increasing, and her precision has improved tremendously."
"This was my final session with the student before her biology final. In this time, we used the study guide provided by the teacher, as well as an additional guide created by a friend of her in order to review key concepts. This included the characteristics of biomes and aquatic ecosystems, levels of organization, roles of organelles, essential chemistry concepts, cellular respiration and photosynthesis, and multiple others. At the end, she confidently stated she was ready for the test and thanked me for my help."
