"The student and I started to prepare him for his subject test in Math level 1. This is the first time he has looked at the math 1 material and what could be asked on the test, so it was good to just dive into it and see where he was at and get a base line of where to go from here. At the end of the session, he ending up doing okay."
"We covered general test taking tips and tricks first, although we did not go into too much depth about those. We spent nearly the entire time working on the Math section. First we took multiple practice tests in which we did 10 questions from throughout the section allowing ourselves 10 minutes for each. We then checked through our answers and went over any that we may have struggled with. This process was repeated multiple times. The problems that were more difficult were repeated with small changes. He did struggle with many of the math problems although marked improvement also occurred. We had a lot of success on understanding the last several problems which was wonderful because they were the hardest we had done yet."
"Today, we covered reading, vocabulary (sentence completion), math (inequalities with absolute values), and writing (subject-verb agreement, among vs. between, word order, tense agreement, etc.) questions. The student had a great attitude, as always. She usually requires little explanation to understand a concept, but she also is patient with herself if she doesn't completely understand something immediately. Today, I think she had the easiest time with writing, but she did pretty well at all subjects. We briefly reviewed some strategies that we had previously covered, but the main strategy we went over today was quickly finding the answer to certain math problems by picking numbers to plug in and eliminating options until only one choice is left."
