Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today the student and I worked on concepts concerning electric fields. We looked at the definitions of an electric field, the representation of electric field lines, and the conventions and rules in defining them. We did several problems involving determining electric field summation and the force on a test charge."
"We reviewed for his exam on Monday. He is doing well and we focused on double checking as well as making a formula sheet. We specifically worked on equilibrium practice problems through the homework that was assigned by his professor."
"In this session, the student and I covered the special theory of relativity. For the first hour of our session, I explained the concepts of time dilation, length contraction, velocity addition, and relativistic momentum and energy. For the remainder of our session, we worked through some practice problems."
"We covered Coulomb's force and the basics of electricity and electric fields. The student had a some (understandable) trouble with the concepts. It is not easy for someone whom has never been exposed to the physics aspects of electricity to grasp the concepts in one session. The student did well in the use of the equations, and we will continue to explore electricity and electric fields during our next session."
"We covered diffraction of coherent light, including interference, Young's two slit experiment, calculations involving distance between slits and pattern formation, and distance between slits correlated to distance between bright areas of the diffraction interference pattern. The student's final test is tomorrow."
"We covered drawing free-body diagrams and then translating those into algebraic equations. The student was struggling a bit with going from the wording of a problem into drawing force diagrams and going from force diagrams, especially with angles, to equations. She knew she just needed practice in order to get the hang of these problems. I simply reiterated that she should work through all of the practice materials, and we would reconvene later in the week."
