Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We went through the student's review sheet today and worked out concepts and equations. I emphasized the importance on units in solving problems, as they let you know where you are starting and where you need to end. After that, I addressed any and all questions the student had regarding the material."
"Today, we reinforced what the student's doing in class with nuclear chemistry. I showed him how to balance and predict nuclear equations and compared different types of radioactive decay."
"Went through the chemistry review on electrochemistry (redox reactions, half reactions, balancing charges)."
"The student and I covered questions and concepts on equilibrium. We talked about how to calculate the equilibrium constant K and how it related to Q. We talked about Le Chatelier's principle and how to think of heat as a reactant or product depending on whether the reaction was endothermic or exothermic. I tried to focus on keeping the concepts of the reaction going left or right intuitive, rather than rote memorization. We reviewed questions from her online homework on the concepts for practice."
"The student and I covered redox reactions today. She did a great job assigning oxidation numbers and identifying what was being oxidized vs what was being reduced. I've assigned her some problems for Wednesday. She is doing great!"
"The student and I covered solutions, specifically dealing with solubility products and the common ion effect. We also covered a bit of acid/base chemistry, specifically finding hydronium and hydroxide ion concentrations, calculating pH, and determining solution acidity/basicity. We reviewed everything at the end of the session, and nothing was amiss!"
