Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"First we did a review. We reviewed the names of body parts, some words in pairs, also some conversation and Q & As. During the review, I added a few more new words, including far/close and first/later. I used these words to create some sentences and Q & As for the students to practice. Then, we continued with the textbook. We reviewed the previous content from the textbook, then studied pages 55-56, analyzed new vocab and sentences, and studied new dialog. The homework is to practice the new dialog and all the new vocab in the textbook."
"I explained to the students today how to make nouns plural and how to greet. We also practiced the numbers from 1 to 100. They already had previous knowledge of numbers. Overall, the three of them are learning Spanish fast. They have a very good, positive attitude towards learning and the Spanish culture."
"The student and I began and ended our session with conversation practice. She is also giving herself more listening comprehension practice by listening to a book on tape. We discussed a poem from our reading book, looking at the questions that accompanied the poem. We also went over more grammar exercises that she had done at home, getting very close to the end of the chapter on commands! She also wrote out original sentences using selected idioms with "tener" that she selected from our grammar book. Then, she read a summary that she'd written of the next part of the novel we're reading."
"Today the student and I went over the verbs ser and estar. He felt as though he didn't know the information, but by the end of the lesson, he was filling in both conjugation charts on his own, from memory. He is going to do great as long as he continues being as focused as he's been thus far."
"The student stated that she was working on traveling and childhood concepts in class. We took time to go over some vocabulary. Some of it she has learned in class; for those we reviewed sentence structures with a question and answer session utilizing the vocabulary. For the new vocabulary we discussed the meanings, spelling, and pronunciation of the words as well as how to use them in sentences. I also provided information to her regarding how to memorize and recognize the words for future use."
"I introduced -ir verbs and we practiced conjugating regular -ir verbs and making sentences with them. Then we reviewed the months of the year and seasons, and continued to review rules for adjectives with practice exercises. I urged the student to pay attention to spelling/ accents and remember to change the verb endings to match the subject of the sentence. Besides that, he is making remarkable progress with how easily he understands the written language."
