Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today's session went well. We developed a dual attack plan for the upcoming English assignment and world history by choosing two of the WH topics as the topic of the English compare and contrast essay. The essay will reinforce the history comprehension. The bulk of the session was spent with an overview of the Russian Revolution in order to give the student some good background for the essay. By our next session, he will read the rest of the history unit and outline his English essay. I will help him construct the essay from there."
"The student's English is far from perfect, but she can communicate her thoughts perfectly well. She wants to become fluent eventually, and she perhaps had an exaggerated idea of how quickly that could be accomplished. I will suggest some workbooks for her and will send her links to some good English language resources. We plan to meet again next week on Monday."
"I gave the student an SAT essay writing prompt. He outlined and wrote his essay within the 30 minute time frame. His essay was well organized, but lacked examples and essential detail. We discussed what he intended in his writing and ways he could improve his essay, and he rewrote his outline and essay. We'll go over it next week."
"We continued working on the placement exam prep. We worked on the discovery of artificial language. Next we worked on necessary synonyms for words, choosing from the multiple choice. We concluded with reading stories, with varying reading levels, followed by answering questions over the selection. The student is doing such an amazing job."
"I helped the student outline his ideas and begin writing his essay on To Kill A Mockingbird. He should write 2 more paragraphs. We will revise next session, and I have additional exercises. I will also email vocabulary words for him to study. We are scheduled to meet again next Monday at 6:00 p.m. He demonstrated independent thinking and engagement! Good work!"
"The student and I reviewed worksheets and sample questions that he had for homework. We also worked on correcting a narrative essay as well as some enrichment ELA worksheets."
