Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today, the student and I continued to focus on her math content (parabolas and quadratic equations). We worked equations using multiple techniques (graphing, vortex form, quadratic form) and how to move from one format to another. I gave her several practice problems and had her solve them using different styles for each equation. She then checked her tables and graphs using her calculator."
"First lesson with the student occurred today. We covered long term scheduling and plan for him to succeed during this final semester at college. The main class we are focusing on is basic mathematics, including statistics and geometry."
"We reviewed the multiplication facts today, and the pictures associated with each fact. I introduced a story and picture for the facts 4 x 7, 4 x 8, and 4 x 9. We did some review with flash cards of all the facts learned thus far. The student seems to be remembering his facts very well. I then completed the 4th lesson using "multiplicative compare" genre of problem solving. He can identify the comparison sentence, set up a proportion and solve for the unknown quantity. I looked at some of his classwork and noted that he is working on the area of rectangles and triangles. He had formulas written in his notes, so we started there."
"Today was the student's last day before his test. We went over various problems, and he did really well! I think he does his best when he is not nervous. However, he has the methods down and I think he's going to do really well tomorrow!"
"The student and I covered some material for her exam tomorrow, including logarithms, exponential functions, composite functions, growth and decay rates. Among many other topics, we reviewed math strategies and skills that will be useful to her for the exam."
"The student did very well today. We started by reviewing some concepts such as positive, negative, and zero exponents. We also reviewed the linear, quadratic, and exponential equations and how to graph them. The student did not have homework so we thoroughly reviewed his unit packet which he will be tested on next week. These concepts included graphing and solving absolute value and square root functions."
