Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I got together for another session to prep for her big thermo test tomorrow. She is going to be fine. She understands the theory, can readily know which equation to use, and gets the concepts very strongly. If she can calm herself, she should do well."
"Today, the student and I went over some of the difficult material and problems that she was struggling with for her exam this evening. We went over some IR/NMR examples and some problems with complex splitting and figuring out the number of peaks on either a 1H NMR spectrum or a 13C NMR spectrum. She is ready for her test this evening and will do well."
"We looked at enolate alkylation reactions and their mechanisms. We also looked at aldol condensation reactions and their mechanisms. We did many example problems and talked about what to look out for specifically. The student was very receptive to the information."
"We reviewed additions to double bonds, the 3 types of mechanisms of double bond additions, examples, HX, X2, hydroboration, ozonolysis and mechanisms, E2 reactions and size of the base, synthesis, and a bit of retrosynthesis reactions. We also did lots of sample problems, stereochemistry, and stereospecificity of double bond additions."
"We reviewed for the student's upcoming final. After going over the problems, the student was better able to see how to go about getting the correct answer. I also reminded her that the reactions and mechanisms are the same. The only thing the professor can do is add different substituents to try and confuse the students. I emphasized practice, practice, practice."
"We reviewed some quizzes that the student took this semester and went through each problem to make sure she understands all the concepts. For the ones she originally got incorrect, she would also have to explain why her original answer was incorrect. The student expressed understanding of the concepts of each quiz question we went over today."
