Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Student and I reviewed four chapters together. She has four more to read and notate. I think that we will meet more regularly from now on. She has a bit of trouble memorizing everything, but I think that this review will help greatly."
"Student and I worked on the English and Reading sections of the ACT today. We worked on some strategies for improving his score on the English section, such as double-checking the types of problems that tend to trip him up, and saving the long-form questions for last so as to maximize his time taking the test. He is very adept at answering the Reading questions correctly, but he needs to increase his speed in order to answer all the questions on time. His least favorite section of the Reading test is the Social Science section, so I advised him to save that section for last. I advised him to practice taking little sprint tests with the Reading section, and practice the English test all the way through. Next week, we will work on the English and Reading sections again, but also look at the Science as well."
"I continued drilling with the student on ACT English. Today, I had him explain back to me his corrected answers. I asked him to explain to me what was wrong with the original sentence, and why his incorrect answer choices were also grammatically incorrect. I think this really helped him slow down and internalize what went wrong. He was able to explain everything correctly for all but 2 questions. I instructed Matthew to do a practice test before the next time I see him."
