Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I continue to make progress as he prepares for his ACT, and I continue to be impressed by how far he has come in such a short time. Today, we worked on the math section mostly, and I am pleased to see that he is getting through the questions in plenty of time. He's also getting much better at answering the questions he knows how to do correctly all of the time, that is, he's making fewer little mistakes. We covered some conceptual material today as well, which should help him with some of the harder questions. We then worked on English, which I think he'll be fine with. Lastly, we did a timed reading passage, which is normally his best section. He ran into a really difficult passage, which I'm glad we had the opportunity to look over and discuss. Overall, a very good session."
"The student and I talked about redox reactions and concepts related to them. We went over how to do a redox reaction using half-reactions, how to recognize species being reduced and species being oxidized, what a galvanic cell looks like, how to use the Faraday constant, that positive voltages are favored in reactions in a galvanic cell, and the equation G=-nFE, which relates Gibbs free energy and voltages. For our next session, we are to finish redox reactions and then hopefully move on to nuclear chemistry."
"For the first half of the session, I coached the student through more Math practice. I had him do timed practice, one minute per question, on facing pages in the test book. He seemed to remember some of the concepts we had reviewed recently, Pythagorean triples and angle identity rules in coordinate geometry. We practiced timed Reading passages with the second half of the session. The student and I are still trying to settle on the best strategy for him for Reading."
