Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"I spent the first forty-five minutes with the first student working on his math and social studies homework. I spent the next half hour with the second student going over Mandarin vocabulary. We worked through another dialogue, and I gave him some translations to do for homework."
"We first did reviewing, I realized we had actually covered a lot of material so far, so instead of giving too much new, we focused on how to utilize the old and make it useful, therefore today I showed her a short classic Chinese cartoon. After the film, I asked her to re-tell the story back to me in Chinese, as simple as she can, and use my help when it's needed. In the beginning, she struggled, but quickly she learned how to use her own way to correctly express what she wants to say, and that's the key. I also taught her how to write date (including year, month and day); I gave her a preview of the next story we'll learn: The Snow Man (she learned how to say and write snow man). The homework is to review all the vocab we covered in the past, especially those ones she missed and uncertain with."
"We began our session by briefly reviewing the material we covered last week. We had one reading that we didn't have time to cover during our last session (conversation between two people regarding a translator). I had new material for this session. We read through 4 short dialogues. We then went over sections that contained difficult pronunciation. I asked questions regarding each reading so the client can practice her conversational Chinese. I asked the client to review the material and we will go over it again with more discussion next session."
"This was a good session. We covered a lot of things today. The student had a few sentences that he had questions about. We translated them and focused on the grammar in past tense. We also talked about plans for the weekend in Chinese. I've been trying to speak Chinese a little bit faster to him each time, and he was able to keep up with me."
"The student's learned to sing the "exercise song". We picked out the body parts from the song and added other body parts to the review list."
"The student and I completed the review sheet for his upcoming Chinese test. We looked at the website of a travel agency and answered questions on identifying the type of article, purpose of the article, the itinerary, dates of travel, price, destination, starting location, transportation, restrictions on luggage, whether the agency helps with obtaining passports or visas, and items included and not included in the price of the ticket. He is excellent at writing Chinese, and he came up with the majority of the responses on his own. He has a good knowledge of the vocabulary appearing on the review sheet."
