Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"I spent the first half hour working with the student on some math homework. I spent the remaining time reviewing some Chinese vocabulary and grammar with him. I also gave him some new words to learn and some sentences to translate for homework."
"This was a great lesson. We mostly talked in Chinese. We talked about holiday schedules, and the student is getting better at listening. I don't need to repeat myself much anymore, and he's able to understand me within the first couple repetitions."
"Yesterday the students and I covered body parts and illness words in Chinese. I used a translated song of "head, shoulders, knees, and toes" to teach the song to Student 1. Next week we will continue to use these words in conversations to enhance speaking skills and applying the vocabulary."
"During today's session, we first reviewed an assignment I had given the student. The assignment covered subjects from last year and this year (hobbies, numbers, relatives, languages, and routine activities). We had a listening exercise as well, in which I pronounced Pinyin, and she wrote down the Pinyin and the tone. We then set aside 10 minutes to go over her new school material concerning locations and directions. The student did most of today's exercise without referring to her school sheets, and she did very well."
"Today, student A learned to write characters from 1 to 10, and how to composite numbers from 1 to over a hundred using the 10 characters. The students all learned the Chinese version of the song "twinkle twinkle little stars". Student A learned to recognize animal characters while the other two learned all basic strokes to write characters, and were asked to come up with characters that contains the each type of stroke. They also wrote the characters for the animals applying the strokes."
"Today, the student started by giving a small report, in German, about a book she had been reading called "Schwarze Blitz." She did very well with her speaking. We then took a short look at how to get her online flashcards to be able to know whether or not she has gotten a word pretty well memorized. We finished with some work on irregular past tense verbs and did some exercises from one of her books. For our next meeting, we are going to resume having conversations about current events, and we will work on the passive voice."
