Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We worked on several problems relating to statistical process control. The problems required creating and analyzing control charts and discussing the stability of the process in question. Other problems focused on analysis of variance models. We fit ANOVA models and interpreted the results. We also looked at the pair-wise comparisons to draw further conclusions about the data."
"We discussed a homework assignment the student has due soon. She used R to calculate probabilities for binomial distributions. We figured out the code together. By the end, she had a much better handle on the type of problem, and she did very well interpreting the word problems into code."
"Today, we went over the student's homework covering correlation and regression. We figured out how to plug in correlation and regression data into a TI-84 calculator, which should help her when it comes to the final exam. We also figured out how to do correlation and regression in StatKey, which was not intuitive. I plan on meeting with her a few more times next week before her final exam."
"The student continues to have a good grasp of the material. She brought in an article she was reading in a professional journal and was able to interpret it correctly in terms of confidence intervals. The substantive meaning of the test was a little more difficult to decode because it involved a statistic called Hedges' g, but I thought that this was a very good sign."
"We went over some discrete problems again. We also went over variables that depend on other variables, which is what the student struggled with most. I think once she does enough practice problems she will start to understand it better. She could brush up on uniform distribution as well. We are meeting again on Monday."
"Today, we covered confidence intervals and hypothesis testing. The student seemed to have a positive attitude throughout the session."
