Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student emailed me his paper Thursday night, so I was able to print it and start editing it before we met. We reviewed everything he had written, which took the entire session. I read a sentence aloud to him and asked him to find the problem in it. I left him with another to-do list, with everything he needed to do in order to finish the paper. He contacted me a few times throughout the weekend with questions and I reviewed his final draft on Sunday before he turned it in. We were both pleased with his final work and he received an excellent grad on the paper. I will meet with him again for his next paper for this course and I will follow a similar plan."
"Regarding my requests made in the session prior to this, the student has as of now completed her Autobiography assignment, identified several yet-to-be-completed assignments, and made some progress in locating/re-naming previously completed homework assignments that are ready for submission. I was very pleased to see this! We worked on a "mini RN" assignment, completing 1 of 2 prompts and thoroughly discussing a strategy for completing the second; further, we inserted citations or a characterization of the type of citation required to support concrete details for this second prompt. Overall, I used new strategies (see list below) to better focus our session."
"Worked on the final draft of a literary analysis essay on "The Grapes of Wrath", incorporating feedback received from the student's teacher, previous drafts, and brainstorming ideas from previous sessions. Polished intro and thesis. Developed and edited the three main points for better textual support and direct relevance to the thesis using the key terms of the chosen essay prompt. Left some placeholders for student to insert quotations and a concluding paragraph."
"The student and I started by looking at the assignment website. We wrote down that he has a science vocabulary project due on Friday. Next, I helped him with his ELA work. I taught him what the subject, verb, and direct object of a sentence were. We then completed a review of a booklet. He benefited from timing his work. It helped him focus and stay on task. At the end of the session, I gave him an informal assessment of the material he learned."
"The student and I started with some math things, which he had mostly down, and then we moved to sentence diagramming. We also talked about studying for a bit at the end. Next week, we will play with sentence structures."
"The student and I studied for her upcoming biology test. We filled out a study guide and talked about the importance of taking notes in class. We then began to fill out the algebra study guide. She can email me with questions if she has them."
