Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We went over previous section of chapter 11 that she wanted more practice on along with going over a new section. Chapter 11 is all about logarithms and exponents. We went over equations in which she needed to know the rules, how to graph logarithms, common log, and how to transform a log into an exponent. I have no concerns with this session."
"We talked about Volumes of prisms and pyramids as well as LSA and TSA. I started out a bit slow because I wasn't sure what topic we would be discussing but we really covered a lot by the end. The student is so smart and understands everything right away. He may just need a little practice."
"We reviewed multiplication facts, and I was able to introduce the picture associations for 4 x 4, 4 x 5, and 4 x 6. I had him describe the pictures that are associated with each fact, then we practiced using flash cards on all the facts learned so far. Daily practice for even 5 minutes would help him be more automatic. He completed 2 word problems involving 'multiplicative compare' problem types."
"The student and I had a productive session going over his Unit 6 review. He is consistently getting the right answers."
"Student 1 and I reviewed her homework, which was writing functions based on graphs, tables of values, and word problems. She did very well and is retaining information from session to session. Once we were finished with that, I gave her some additional word problems. Her mom informed me that she currently has a B in the class, which is excellent news! Student 2 showed me what he was working on in class, which was multiplying and dividing polynomials. He was comfortable with the multiplication, so I gave him some more difficult problems that I brought with me. He did well, but sometimes had trouble combining like terms because of how many numbers there were. I showed him a technique of lining up like terms. He found this very helpful because not only does it decrease errors, but it also is faster. I then gave him several practice problems. He said that "teaching" me the method helped him solidify his understanding of it."
"Today we spent time working on finding the volume of prisms: rectangular, triangular, and trapezoidal. We also began working on test prep problems which included proportions, probabilities, writing equations, and finding area, circumference, and volume."
