"The student and I began with a few passage reading questions. In particular, we worked on a long passage. We worked on a strategy for evaluating answer choices. When the answers are phrases, we can double check that each significant word in the answer choice fits with the material in the passage. We looked at some math next, mainly geometry. The student is improving steadily at translating word problems to math expressions. On the writing section, we worked on Improving Sentences problems. She mentioned that she often wants to choose an answer that's wordier. We discussed how it is often the opposite that we want."
"We were able to work on all sections today. We did a bit of "running in sand" where we will break the flow of things in order to focus in on one question at a time, both on reading and math."
"The student had worked through the multiple-choice writing section of a practice assessment and then emailed me a response to an essay prompt, so we went through both of those carefully, looking at ways he could improve both. Then we looked at another essay prompt and developed another essay together with our remaining time."
