We worked on subtracting fractions and simplifying them. I showed the student a website where he will go for extra practice. We tested out the site so he was familiar with it and understands what to do until we meet again. We spent most of the time working on multiplication facts. We played multiple games that practiced his facts. We made a list of the multiplication facts he struggles with the most and made flashcards for about half of them. He is going to practice them before we meet again. He is definitely making improvements with his multiplication skills, but still has to practice.

We covered multiplying fractions. The student had a slight misconception about finding a common denominator for multiplying fractions. I informed her that a common denominator was only necessary for adding and subtracting fractions. She ascertained that multiplying fractions requires finding the products of the numerators and the denominators. She was also able to simplify and convert the products if necessary. She discovered that a fraction needed to be simplified if the numerator and denominator were in the same fact family. She did well utilizing the GCF to simplify the products. Overall, she had a prolific session. She displayed a high level of curiosity during tonight's session. She seems prepared to have another successful semester.
