Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today we looked at all of the different sessions in one final tune-up. The student did a really good job with science, math and English. He has plenty of online resources to look at between now and Saturday. He was meeting or exceeding his target score in everything we did today."
"I met with both students. Student 1 and I went over an SAT critical reading section, discussing the strategies for reading as well as strategies for making educated guesses. Then we went over a multiple choice math section that he had few issues with. Student 2 and I worked for an hour on a multiple choice math section that she had few issues with."
"Yesterday, the student and I covered reading and science, reinforcing tips we've introduced in previous sessions, including speed reading and reordering science passages. He's currently averaging 13/15 on each reading session and around 90% on science, steadily improving each go-around. I look forward to our next session."
"The student did well with his assigned practice homework. Today we ran full-length Reading and Science practice sections. He did well on the Reading but struggled on an unusually hard Science test, ultimately ending up with a 22 composite for the full practice ACT. We recovered some tips for studying on his own before departing."
"Extra lesson in preparation for upcoming TOEFL. All sections have been covered and practiced. Spent time reviewing reading and listening strategies. Student has made progress. Discussed upcoming plans for SAT preparation and college application."
"We went over practice English sections that the student took on the website. Her most common mistakes dealt with verb mood agreement, apostrophe use, and colon use, so we went through practice problems together that specifically addressed those issues. For the second half of the session, we worked on a worksheet she was assigned in physics class that dealt with centripetal motion."
"We went over some basic strategies for all of the sections. We then went over factoring HW and functions. He is doing well and improving in his speed. When he figures out how to do a problem he gets it right. He will have some coordinate geometry problems for tomorrow."
"Today we covered the different types of questions in the reading section of the ACT, doing several questions in the categories the student thought would be most helpful for him. Then we did a few math questions (geometry and algebra)."
"The student and I discussed general test strategies for the ACT. On the English section, we went over the different question types and strategies for each. We discussed common punctuation as well as subject/verb agreement. He knows to use the answer choices to help him identify the type of error. On math, we went over timing strategies. There also appears to be a number of concepts he'll need to review to prepare for the test. We did some work solving algebraic expressions as well as geometry review. I sent him practice sections to complete before our next meeting."
"Today we did a run-through of the Science and English portions of the ACT. The student's time per question has dropped substantially and her confidence has increased accordingly. Her overall accuracy is greatly improved and I am certain that she is prepared for her test this weekend."
"Today we reviewed the topics that we had previously covered in English. This included clarity and precision, subject-verb agreement, modifier placement, pronoun-antecedent agreement, and comparatives versus superlatives. We also reviewed topics in geometry including special right triangles, circles, sector area and arc length. He completed an ACT English section and scored 68/75, a scaled score of 31. He finished all of the questions in exactly 65 minutes. He also began to work on an ACT Math test from the study guide (current score 20/20). His scores demonstrated very good progress."
"We reviewed some last minute questions regarding the ACT, went over a few math problems, and overall made sure that the student was prepared for his test on Saturday. He overall feels better about the exam and his confidence seems to be better as well."
