Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"This session was used to cover the sundry details pertinent to an assignment that used code already written (for the manipulation of hash tables). The assignment added file I / O, so the student and I discussed how she should go about doing that. A good bit of the session time was devoted to parsing c-strings for the commands given in said file."
"Today I worked with the kids on various things, each catering to their individual focuses in the class. Student 1 was catching up on past work. He's currently learning about variables, functions, and loops and how he will be applying that to his next coding project. Student 2 is working on AppInventor still and is currently brainstorming how he's going to make his 2 games. He also showed me his creative project today and it was really well done. Student 3 took a quiz today on vocabulary of the Alice coding environment. She also had to change her animation scene to a different scene in "Finding Nemo" due to the difficulty of creating a good and loadable 3-D object/class for jellyfish. She spent most of the class reworking her animation to a new scene."
"The student has a program due involving linked lists, and I helped her get it running properly. Her program was very good! All the main parts were there and worked properly, but it was overly complicated and did some things in weird or unintuitive ways. There were two main problems in the way of the program working properly, which took a while to suss out. She has some trouble remembering the structure of the objects she's working with, and just general organizational stuff (one issue was caused by forgetting to change a function prototype after changing the function itself, for example). However, we got the program working, and also cleaned it up a good bit. Some time this week there will be a new program which will build on this one, so we're meeting again next Sunday after she has had a few days to work on it."
